Importing a car

Non- residents may keep and use a foreign registered car in Crete for up to 6 months a year. If you exceed this period you must either import your vehicle or take it out of Greece. The penalty if you are caught abusing this EC - law vary, some Greek customs will give you a one-time penalty, others may claim a fine for each day of the exceeded period, in that case the car may become very expensive, some customs may even confiscate the car. It is advisable to keep ferry tickets to prove the date of arrival. Full information regarding the import of cars is available from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Directorate General for Transport, Xenofondos 13, TK 101 91 Athens, Tel: 01- 325 4515.
Pets


If you are planning to take your pets to and from your Crete property they will require a Pet Passport and you will have to arrange their Shipment. For help and information contact the Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Their web site is: -www.defra.gov.uk   look for Pet Travel Scheme (or call 0870 421 1710 and ask for an information pack)

  • Currency: Euro, American dollar, Swiss franc or any other local currency (under the condition that it is funded by Eurobank.
  • Programs: a) Variable interest rate program based on ECB tracker b) Variable interest rate program linked with monthly Euribor c) Fixed interest rate program for 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years. Tenor of repayment: up to 30 years.
  • Age: the applicant’s age must not exceed the 75th year at the loan’s maturity
  • Legal and technical evaluation fee: 60 euros
  • Pre-notation value: 130% of the loan amount. First class pre-notation or cash collateral or combination of the two mentioned above.
  • Pre-notation fees: 0,875% of the pre-notation value (paid to local authorities).
  • Obligatory fire and earthquake insurance: 3,37 euros/1000 euros of insurance value of the property, paid yearly.

All required documents (apart from the application form) are:

 

  1. A valid passport

 

For employed applicants:

  1. A copy of the most recent tax return slip issued by the authorities of the applicants’ country of residence
  2. A copy of the most recent salary slip

 

For self-employed applicants:

2.        A copy of the two (2) most recent tax return slips issued by the authorities of the applicants’ country of residence.

 

 

The loan disbursement will take place only after all required documentation and respective collateral have been checked and found to be in order, following the Bank’s standard credit policy and only after the application is approved by the Credit Committee of EFG Eurobank Ergasias.

 

The whole procedure does not require your physical presence in Greece . The only thing that you have to do is to appoint an attorney at law that could be the same one that will represent you for the procedure of the purchase in Greece and that will also represent you for the whole procedure of the Mortgage Loan.
