Crete Property - A Brief Overview
Crete is the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands,
and Crete offers more variety and sunshine than any other. It
is also an extremely independent island and the Cretans
are proud of their home and the hospitality they offer to
visitors. Crete property attracts many expatriates, who choose to
holiday or, live permanently on the island.
Compared
with other destinations, property in Crete offers many advantages,
including:
·
Mild winters allowing 12 months use of
Crete
properties
·
A sense of security based on a very low crime rate compared to other
European Countries.
·
A fascinating ancient and modern history.
·
Easily accessible landscape with a low population density.
·
Low cost of living, but the standard is high.
·
One of the healthiest diets in the world.
·
Pollution free atmosphere and incredibly clean seas.
Crete has become
the most popular Greek Island for those wishing to retire
or set up semi-permanent residence in their own property. Unlike many of the
smaller islands, life in Crete goes on after summer; and why
shouldn't it when spring and autumn temperatures in the
70s sandwich short, mild winters? Countless traditional
villages amble through life as they have done for
centuries. Even the smallest have a village square,
kafenion and taverna, where you can eat and drink the day
away for not much more than a pocket of small change. In
general, the cost of living in Crete is much less than that of the
UK and comes with a free and limitless supply of Crete's
unreserved hospitality!

Locations:
West
Crete, Apokoronas region,
between Chania and Rethymno, is arguably one of the
prettiest regions in Crete. The countryside is lush and
green, back dropped by the spectacular Lefka Ori (The
White Mountains). The sandy beaches are outstanding. The down side is that
villages like Gavalohori, Kalives, Almirida, Plaka and
Kokkino Horio have become overdeveloped with new
build Crete property and the locals are starting to
call the area Little England.
West Crete, Panormo
Village East of Rethymno,
is a typical example of a Greek village, whitewashed
properties gleaming in the mid day sun, a mini-maze of back
streets and village houses sloping gently down to the small harbour and
pretty beach, There’s the traditional Cretan village square,
with tavernas and Kefenions acting host to the backgammon
players where all day waiters serve ouzo and tiny plates
of olives and cheese. Once a thriving harbour and a home
to wealthy Crete merchants, old dilapidated Crete property
is being
renovated and restored with great elegance to make
wonderful Cretan homes..
This is the
Crete property
of haphazardly painted blue doors and rough washed walls,
behind which hidden courtyards and gardens display potted
plants and widow’s dress in black – timeless!

Property page.
West
Crete, Agia Triada is a
small hillside village located 11km from Rethymno town
centre and 5km from the nearest sandy beach. There is a
health centre 6 km away and the hospital of Rethymno is
only a 15-minute drive. The international airport of
Heraklion and Hania are 75 km and 70 km respectively. Just
9km away is the historical monastery of Arkadi. The
climate in the area is one of the best in Crete - an ideal
location for your Crete property.
East
Crete, Sitia In our opinion
this area will become popular over the next few years. In
may 2005 Sitias new airport started bringing tourists and
homebuyers to the area in May 2005. East Crete property prices are
presently 30% to 50% cheaper than those in Western Crete. The town of Sitia
has a wonderful harbor front, beach and port with regular
Ferryboats to and from Piraeus.
In Sitia one
doesn't have to go far to discover the untouched Crete -
just a few miles off the main road into the hills and
mountains and you will find a Crete that few tourists take
the time to visit. Whether you hanker for relaxing beach
life, lively nightlife, traditional tavernas, great
restaurants, peace and tranquility, or a little of each,
we are sure you will find a location and property to suit
your particular requirements.
South East Crete, Makris Yialos once
just a small fishing village is now a busy tourist resort
with many shops, tavernas, bars and supermarkets. Located
on the south east coast of Crete 35 km from Sitia town, the area
has wonderful sandy beaches and traditional Cretan village
property. A golf
course
is scheduled for completion by 2006.
